My home office is in the original kitchen in our home. When the house was built in 1798, the current kitchen was an open breezeway between the main house and the detached kitchen. In about 1900 the Frank family closed in the breezeway and turned that space into the kitchen – leaving the original room for the messier chores of farm life. We’ve owned the house for 25 years and in that time it’s been the boy’s bedroom, the boy’s playroom, and now my office.
When we bought the house, there was indoor/outdoor carpet in the room, we covered it with off white carpet that we removed from a friends brand new house the day before they moved in. It was perfect for a boy’s playroom – it was free! This was the year that I just couldn’t look at it any longer. I hinted and nudged until Hubby came up with the brilliant idea to take old boards from the mill (yes, we have one of those, doesn’t everyone?), clean them up and install heart pine floors to match the rest of the house. OMGoodness what a grand thought!!! And so it began….
This is how our living room looked with all the office furniture piled in. Of course it wasn’t until; a day after we created this mess that I realized all the business papers we needed were impossible to reach.
See…I told you indoor/outdoor carpet – we kept it in place for additional insulation…..gone now…..
The wood was pretty wormy and rough in some places so Hubby made sure it was used in the middle of the room where it would be covered by a rug….
It was a rather quick installation, Hubby had all the boards prepped and ready to go before he began the demo….
When it was time to put the room back together we agreed to exchange the roll top desk for a smaller piece…
It holds file boxes and all of the paper supplies in adorable Martha Stewart boxes…
I’ve had this dresser for a while – I use it to store stocking stuffers that I accumulate throughout the year…
These are a few shots of the room – probably things you’ve seen before….
I bought two little windows because I had one square inch without clutter and I (obviously) couldn’t allow that…..
That’s it – I’m hoping for one more bedroom redo – we’ll see ….Hubby might need a break. I bet lasagna could sway him :-)
thanks for visiting!!!
