My inspiration for this update came from a local designer that needs to share her talents more, Anne Whitehouse…she’s fun and fabulous. With Anne’s guidance we achieved this…
from this…
I donated most of the novels, kept most of the historic/war/non-fiction in case the sons ever want them….I even parted with a few of the cookbooks. Then at Anne’s suggestion, I grouped the remaining books by color. She showed me some great examples of color blocking.
We painted, obviously….and updated the hinges/handles on the cabinet doors. I also, in an effort to declutter the shelves, moved the printer inside a cabinet. Part of the reason for the update was to make a comfy space for Hubby to be able to sit and watch television while I’m working at my computer. He doesn’t do it often, at this point, puttering in the yard is definitely his preference, but the chair and new larger television is ready for those times when he wants to use them.
We rearranged the furniture to allow for a more open space…the position of the chair makes it possible for us to chat too. I kept the sofa and had new covers made for the pillows – just a little freshen up. Rather than purchasing new pillows that require storage space, I’ve been having covers sewn and switch those when the mood strikes. I think these are my favorites for this room…at least for now.
One of Anne’s suggestions was to group my jug head collection – previously they were scattered around the shelves…I love her idea.
to balance the other side of the shelves (I know this photo is above), I gathered a few items from the window sills. This achieved two things…it gave me another “collection” space on the opposite side of the room for balance AND cleared the clutter from the very deep window sills.
If I ever completely clear my desk, I’ll add some full room shots…BIG if. Until then…one last peek at the new light, bright shelves that brighten my workspace…
