I love the pottery rice cooker I bought from Robert Klander during a fall “meet half way” lunch with one of our sons and his family. Mr Klander of Turtle Rock Pots was working on a clay dragon sculpture and when we stopped to admire it, I spotted his rice pots. They’re cute – which is key for me. Even better, the rice is perfect every time.
The instructions are simple, one cup of rice and two cups of water ….into a cold oven and bake for an hour. Done. Perfect. I’ve made plain white rice and, Hubby’s fav, Zatarain’s – all perfect. Last night I made a special blend for my Wild Rice Salad – again perfect. Because it’s a cold rice salad, I made the rice first and then turned up the heat to roast Brussels sprouts and added salmon fillets wrapped in foil with herbs for the last few minutes. Such an easy dinner – all cooked in the oven while I had a cup of coffee.
The gourmet mix is used in a cold rice salad and when made in my traditional rice cooker, it makes a horrible mess from the steam escaping through the vent hole. I made it last night and there was no mess from my new rice pot – yay! It gets even better, any left over rice goes straight into the fridge and my cute rice pot keeps it perfectly moist for the next day.
Thanks for the visit!
