Napkin Decluttering is a challenging task in the ongoing Declutter 365 Project from Home Storage Solutions, at least for me….napkins and placemats. I haven’t participated in Tablescape Thursdays in a while because I found I was accumulating far too many dishes, placemats, and napkins and felt the need to slow down. Most people don’t have an entire cabinet dedicated to cloth napkins, mine was spilling over. I bravely began to sort and (gasp) toss some into the Goodwill pile. The pie safe is still so full I couldn’t possibly add another square piece of cloth, but it’s tidy and Goodwill will be receiving 5 bags of napkins – I know they’re in high demand this time of year – ha!
I have chosen to use the declutter project as a “clean it up” project rather than a “throw it out”. I don’t mind parting with some but obviously, I like to still have choices.
At one point during the process a man, clearly impersonating my husband, walked by and commented”wow, you’re clearing out a lot”. I know it was a stranger in disguise because my husband would have said “Why are you keeping so many?”. I prefer the imposter version.
In full disclosure, this is the mess I started with….
I’m connecting with Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch.

I seem to have built up quite a collection of napkins also but can’t stand the thought of parting with any of them. I store mine folded, each set in a zip lock bag.. I write on the bag the description of the napkin and how many there should be in the bag. That way ,the next time I need six and I only find four, I know that I have two napkins that have “wandered off” into the wrong bag or been stuffed in a drawer. If you keep them in the zip lock bags, make sure to press them down and get all the air out before sealing them up. You ‘ll be amazed at how many sets you can store this way in a small storage space.

I love the zip lovk bag idea – thank you! I have mine folded but never thought to label and number – brilliant!
