The Thanksgiving table was decorated and set days in advance – that really isn’t anything new…I have a tendency to dive into the display aspect of a holiday. I’d tweeked and fussed with it for days and then it snowed. Snow isn’t the end of the world (at least for other people) but the resulting power outage on Wednesday brought an end to Thanksgiving at my table.I’m not complaining, simply sharing why, on the day after Thanksgiving, the table looks the same.
We watched the wonderful men working on the power substation throughout the morning, then we saw the huge piece of equipment arrive and knew it was more than a broken wire. When the port-o-potty was delivered, we took that as a definite sign that it was time to transport the food to my mother’s house. Again, not complaining, those guys gave up their own Thanksgiving so that many people could have electricity – we’re very thankful that our house was warm last night.
Back to the table, I found mt pheasant at LTD7 – a fabulous store in Staunton. I used rich fall colors to go with his muted tones….
We had a wonderful evening filled with laughter, fun conversation, lil football, and great food…..all the stuff that really matters was perfect.
and on Monday, the fall decor will go and it will be replaced by tons of Christmas decor. The tree is sitting in water waiting to be decorated, the garland is on the porch waiting to be hung, and I think I hear the Santas in the attic tapping their feet impatiently …..Monday.
