My only contribution at a recent gathering was the cheese platter – so I wanted to make it spectacular. What do you think?
I abandoned the traditional thoughts of the perfect combo being three to five cheeses of different types. This platter was for family, consequently, I know what we like and went that route. We also live in a small town, we love being here, but the selections aren’t as varied as you’d find in larger cities. On this platter I used an extra sharp white cheddar and Gorgonzola – I intentionally went with two white cheeses – yellow was not in my color scheme. I tossed in a little salami because my guys love it, some nuts for crunch, and fresh berries for the sweet element….
In the winter, when fresh fruit isn’t available, I enjoy using pepper jellies to add a little spicy sweet with the brie…..
a few olives add to the textures and tastes….
As you can see, I made a mini-mound and every single morsel was consumed….we’ll have to give this another go before the berries are out of season. I did a little browsing on Tumblr so that I could share a few cheese plate ideas with you, the first is from Tom Kat Studio
They used a jelly and some fruit to accompany the cheese – I love that with Brie or St. Andre. The next is from Savory Sweet Life…
I love their rustic display, it looks delish….the last one I didn’t find a source for but it looked too nice to pass…
This platter is more in line with the suggested variations of cheese, hard and soft, aged and fresh, both cow and goat – it looks yummy too. Really, can you ever go wrong with cheese? Other than over indulging….
