We (as in I supervise and Hubby does) try to address one major project each year at the house….this year painting the exterior was definitely the project that needed attention. It still looked great from a distance…..
The close-ups weren’t as flattering…..it almost looks like it belongs in a horror movie – ha!
After driving around town taking photos of houses we liked, we headed to grab some paint chips…
we tried a few (I’d asked to see them on the back of the house) Hubby actually painted huge spots on all four sides so I could see them in all lights – along with everyone driving past…
then we tried a couple more…at this point my kennel helpers thought I was “going camo”, they were so excited….
a color was selected and so it began in February…..
Our home was built in 1798 so with each paint job there is old mortar to be replaced and patching to be done – it’s a major undertaking (or so I’m told)…
Hubby added a little decorative touch to the doors….
The trim pieces have been painted to match the doors. The only red door is the front one and it’s always been red, don’t ask me why – it just is…
and finally…….
You may notice the chimneys haven’t been painted. Back in February, Son #4 said he’d “put a cool $50” on them not being finished in November. Obviously he knew his dad’s track record with roof level projects. I actually chased down a workman I saw on a roof yesterday to ask if he’d paint them. By the time I’d circled the block he was driving away from the job so I chased him through town (even racing through a few orange lights) – he informed me he does chimney inspections not painting. I asked if I could pay him to inspect and paint at the same time – apparently not. We went through this the last time and had them painted a year later by the roofers, darn us for buying 50 year shingles. I’m still going to call the roofers on Monday….
I’m not complaining, Hubby worked very hard and did a great job. You wouldn’t catch me up on a roof that’s four stories high on one side – no siree. I suppose I could ignore them and simply paint them with Photoshop when needed.
from the side…
the walkway to the back porch….
Today I’m joining Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch – thanks for visiting!
