Today I’m taking you along on a night-time outing to the park to hear the Stonewall Brigade Band. First a little history on the band.
On Arbor Day 1889 the Stonewall Brigade Band played while 1500 tress were planted in the newly opened Gypsy Hill Park. So began the continuous series of concerts that has lasted to present day.
This is a photo of their early gazebo.
This was the final performance of the 2009 summer series…..
The Gazebo looked beautiful in the moonlight……
and the band sounded wonderful, my favorites are the Big Band tunes and lots of people enjoyed the evening, some danced …..
Here is the Stonewall Brigade Band in their bandstand by daylight……
The Stonewall Brigade Band is the nation’s oldest continuous community band sponsored by local government and funded, in part, by tax monies. While a number of community bands have their beginnings earlier than the Stonewall Brigade Band’s 1855 founding, all of the other bands have gone out of existence at some time and then been reorganized.

Thank you for sharing the history of this band and gazebo. Sitting in the open air and listening to music is one of life’s pleasures.
